Last updated: October 23, 2026
This website (“Phonics Handbook for Kids”, the “Site”) is a free, non-commercial educational resource that helps young children learn to read with phonics. It is operated by an independent parent/educator. You can contact us at the address at the end of this page.
The Site requires no account, no sign-up, no email address and no payment information. We do not ask children (or parents) to submit names, photos, voice recordings, location data or any other personal information. There are no comment forms, chat features or uploads.
To remember learning progress, the Site saves two small pieces of data in your browser’s
localStorage:
phonicsLearned — which of the 13 levels have been marked as completed;phonicsChecks — which items on the graduation checklist have been ticked. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us or to any third party. You can delete it at any time by clearing site data / cookies for this website in your browser settings.
Word pronunciation uses the Web Speech API built into your browser and operating system. The text that is read aloud is processed locally by your browser. We do not record, store or transmit any audio, and we do not access your microphone.
We may use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics (such as Cloudflare Web Analytics) to count page views and see which countries visitors come from. These statistics are aggregated and do not identify individual visitors.
This Site may display advertising through Google AdSense to cover hosting costs. When ads are shown:
If you are a parent and prefer not to see ads, we recommend using a browser with an ad blocker, or using the Site with your child while ads are blocked. The learning content works the same either way.
This Site is designed for children in early primary school and is intended to be used with the involvement of a parent, caregiver or teacher. We comply with the principles of the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU GDPR provisions on children’s data:
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Because we do not collect personal data, there is generally no personal data for us to export, correct or delete. You can still contact us with any question or request. If you are in the EU/UK, you have rights under the GDPR; if you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA. We will respond to reasonable requests within the time required by applicable law.
The Site may link to third-party websites (for example, Google’s ad settings page). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites; please review their own policies.
We may update this policy when the Site changes (for example, if advertising or analytics is added or removed). The “Last updated” date at the top will always show the current version. Continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
